Chapters 6 and 7: Marketing on Twitter and Snapchat
Twitter and Snapchat are two of the most used platforms among today's younger generations. In fact, "Of those online, 69 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds and 62 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds use Snapchat" (Chen). This is a huge percentage of the population who dominates this app. Similarly, "younger generations are more likely to use Twitter than those in older generations, with 32 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds and 38 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds active on the platform" (Chen).
Chapter six highlights marketing strategies and other tools Twitter uses. Within this chapter, anything from how to set up a Twitter profile to how the algorithm works is explained. In fact, the book dives deeper and gives us tangible numbers to go with the data provided. "Today 'Twitter' attracts over 330 million monthly users (Hootsuite) who send over 6,000 tweets per second—more than half a billion per day" (Gray). This is a large number of tweets that are posted daily. These tweets are anything from companies promoting their brands, politicians spreading political awareness, or even simple life updates from your friends!
In chapter seven highlights and marketing strategies for Snapchat were explained. Snapchat is by far my most used platform of social media, however, when reading this chapter the numbers of daily snaps and engagement blew my mind. Over 498 million people are using Snapchat daily to create over three billion snaps every day (Charello). Snapchat has such a large daily use that it is now one of the most used apps in terms of company engagement and marketing. In fact, "Snap ads receive twice the visual attention of Facebook ads, 1.5 times more than Instagram ads, and are 1.3 times more effective than YouTube" (Snapchat). With numbers like these, I think Snapchat will start to be way more utilized to promote advertisements.
In conclusion, Twitter and Snapchat are two of the most used social media platforms. These two apps are most commonly used amongst younger generations and I am excited to see how much more these platforms grow over our life because I know I will never give up Snapchat:)!
