The Uprising of Social Media

The first think I see when I open my phone is almost always a notification from some form of social media app. This morning when I woke up I had received 17 notifications from Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram and even Twitter. Everytime I check my phone I have received a new notification from some form of social media that I use! 

Our generation, Generation Z has most likely grown up being active on some sort of social media. As a first time generation who have grown up on social media we have a strong presence on how these media companies function to keep their worlds profitable. We have all depended on social media almost our entire lives to keep everyone updated on our lives, make friends, promotes our person brand and even promote things we are passionate about! 

Social media has grown drastically over the past few decades.  In fact, "By the beginning of 2021, the total number of active social media users reached 4.2 billion, representing over 53.6 percent of the world’s population (We Are Social)." This statistic blew my mind when reading our text! 53.6 percent of the world's population is a huge number! This means that not only is Generation Z flooding the world of social media but this also means that other generations are too!

The image above shows the use of social media over time over the past half a decade! Social media as a whole has a whole new use in today's society. Social media is now commonly used for everyday users like ourselves to become brand ambassadors, sell our own personal brand, share our daily lives, online shop or even just simply stay connected! 

Next time you open your phone and see a notification from a social media app that you use I want you to stop and think about how much different your life would be without it!
